A quick and affordable DIY repair solution for standard gas and electric recessed (inset) meter boxes which is resistant to damage and weathering. 

This Overbox was developed to fit over an existing damaged meter box where the original is inset into the wall (the most expensive and disruptive repair) making the unit safe and aesthetically pleasing. Now in black these give customers an alternative to the usual white offered.

The Overbox can be used for gas or electric meter box installations

Specification

The Overbox dimensions are as follows:-

634mm height x 494mm width x 100mm depth. 


Internal dimensions are 614mm height x 440mm width x 66mm depth. 


The Overbox can fit over existing inset meter boxes with overall sizes no bigger than 618mm height x 440mm width x66mm depth.

COLOUR - BLACK

Made from High Impact Engineering Grade, UV weather resistant Thermoplastic polymer material.

Note:- This is a polished black Overbox and you could notice very very very minor blemishes in the colour on some parts of the box produced from the moulding process. This does not change the overall look of the box.

Why this Overbox Versus others

When a smart meter replaces the old meter it can't be placed in a broken meter
box. 5% of all boxes are broken at any one time. That's over 2.5 million. Meter boxes have not changed in design, material and manufacturing methods for decades. Current boxes are made from Glass Reinforced Plastic, GRP. 
This material becomes brittle with age causing boxes to crack and break. These are unsuitable for smart meter upgrades and service upgrades. 


The most common box is the recessed wall mounted box

Usually white in colour, these boxes must be fitted by a builder at time of constructing a property or later by removing bricks.The house is fitted into the cavity wall with a small amount exposed from the wall of a building.   Typical dimensions: Dimensions

o  Moulded in ASA engineering material compared to competitor products moulded in GRP material or Aluminium.

o  High impact ASA engineering material is more resistant to; damage during transit, installation and damage from vandals compared to GRP materials used on conventional Meter Box Housings.

o  ASA Material is UV Stable with excellent resistance to weathering and colour discolouration. Developed specifically to meet the replacement repair needs of the smart meter roll out for gas and electric installations for inset meter boxes, whose dimensions are no bigger than 618mm height x 440mm width x 66mm depth.

o  ASA polymers provide long service life and are currently used in these products for outdoor applications: Water and Rainwater Fittings, Car Roof Boxes, Boat Hulls and Automotive and Garden Products. 

o  Unlike GRP ASA polymers are recyclable at end of life and can be reprocessed for further use as a moulding material.

o  Manufactured by injection moulding process rather than by compression or resin transfer moulding as standard practice for GRP. In comparison the injection moulded process advantages; reduced cycle time, economical production with minimal waste and a low energy manufacture.

o  ASA Material is 26% lighter than GRP.

o  ASA Material has 33% more impact strength than GRP.

o  ASA moulded products are friendly to handle rather than GRP products containing short chopped strands of glass.

o  Does not dent compared to aluminum

o  Does not chip or scratch like powder coated aluminum boxes

o  Does not corrode in coastal areas like aluminum.

o  Much more cost effective than aluminum boxes

o  Robust assembly and door construction. Door hinge mechanism allows door to be mounted for left hand or right hand opening and is easily replaced in the event of failure. Badge moulding with ‘E' & ‘G' used to identify utility covered for Electric or Gas meter box.

o  The Overbox is designed to fit over damaged inset meter boxes within the sizes above which are designed in accordance with BS8499: 2009. British Standard for Domestic Gas Meter Boxes.

o  The Overbox has a clean modern appearance to blend with all architectural styles. 

Fitting:-

The overall box will fit over an inset meter box who's dimensions are not bigger that 618mm height x 440mm width x 66mm depth 

Place the Overbox over the inset meter box & position.

With a pencil mark positions where you are going to fix the Overbox to the wall.

Remove Overbox & drill holes into the wall, use a fastening/raw plug suitable for your type of wall construction  

Place the Overbox and fasten screws. 


Tighten screws once Overbox is aligned.
