Getting ready to revamp your kitchen? Don't forget about one of the most important appliances for any passionate home cook or budding chef, the oven! At OnBuy, you can shop an extensive online range of electric ovens that allow you to accurately set the perfect cooking temperature to create an endless number of delicious dishes with ease. With all kinds of sleek and practical models from big brand names, you'll have a wide range of options to explore!
Are electric ovens better than gas cookers?
One of the biggest differences between gas and electric ovens is that the gas version uses actual exposed flames to cook and heat up your culinary creations. Plus, gas cookers (as the name infers) typically use combustible LPG (low pressure gas) to fan the flames which can cause some people to worry due to the risk of gas leaks. However, gas leaks are very rare and generally only occur when the oven isn't properly installed to a gas line or a knob has been turned to release gas without the ignition button being pressed. To reduces the chances of a nasty accident, it's important that homes with gas cookers have a carbon monoxide alarm installed somewhere within the home.
While opting for an electric stove won't reduce the risk or burns or fires, they don't use gas and are therefore often considered a much safer alternative to gas cookers. Plus, despite being more expensive to run, they're actually a lot more efficient than gas ovens, meaning the majority of the heat is being used to cook your food instead of warm your kitchen - a job that should be left to your home heating system! They're also far more user-friendly as the temperature can be precisely set to create delicious meals that aren't dry or burnt. Finally, electric ovens boast a flat surface that's effortless to wipe down unlike gas cookers that typically require a lot more effort and time to refresh.
Can I install my own electric cooker?
Sadly not, not unless you have the appropriate qualifications and status to work with electricity. Similar to the installation of gas cookers (that require you to be on the Gas Safety Register), you'll need to gain the proper qualifications before you can turn your own hand to upgrading your kitchen with an electric oven. While any qualified electrician should be able to install your electric oven for you, some companies will also offer a installation service for an additional fee.
However, the installation method is fairly straightforward, so if you're willing to attain the appropriate qualifications you could save yourself the expense of hiring a professional - ideal for property renovators who are always looking for ways to save money on their home renovation projects. Despite this, if you don't feel confident tackling the job, it's always best to ask a professional electrician instead due to the dangerous nature of poorly-installed appliances. If you're attempting it yourself, then you should know that your cooker should always be installed at least 300mm away from other appliances and features in your kitchen such as sinks and fridges for safety reasons.
