Alpine Strawberry An early variety with tasty red fruits which can be up to 25mm in diameter. Very hardy, Alpine strawberry plants will eventually mature to approx.25cm by 25cm. They will happily flower and fruit from early spring until the first frosts. The flowers of the Alpine Strawberry have both male and female organs and are pollinated by bees, moths and butterflies. The berries, rich in iron, vitamin C and potassium are sweet and succulent with an exquisite flavour and aroma. Alpine Strawberry fruit is delicious eaten fresh but it can also be cooked and made into jams, tarts or puddings. The leaves of the Alpine Strawberry can be made into a refreshing tea-like drink and is used as a herbal remedy to treat arthritis, stomach upsets and other digestion problems. Prefers a fertile, well drained moisture retentive soil but are not fussy whether conditions are acid or alkaline. At their best in full sun or light dappled shade, the Alpine Strawberry will also tolerate semi-shade although this will reduce fruit production. Excellent along woodland edges where they seem to thrive when mulched by pine or spruce leaves. Detailed growing instructions are on the back of each packet Packet contains: 210 seeds approx.
