CROCOSMIA Lucifer

This vibrant bulbous perennial is perfect for a mixed or herbaceous border in a sunny, sheltered site.

Crocosmias produce dense clumps of upright, mid green, grass like foliage pleated length ways.

This makes a good background for the arching sprays of small funnel-shaped flowers which appear in August and September.

The individual blooms are not as big as other crocosmia but small-flowered varieties such as Lucifer are the hardiest which makes them a wise choice in cold districts.

When grown in a flower border, they provide structure and colour and they also make excellent cut flowers.

For maximum impact, plant in bold drifts in a sunny, sheltered site in any moist but well drained garden soil.

Resist removing the faded foliage in autumn and cover the crown of the plant with bracken or bark chips to protect the plant against frost damage.

Lift and divide , colonies in spring, planting the divided sections 3-4" deep.
