Cerinthe Blue Kiwi Description

Unwins Cerinthe Blue Kiwi Seeds produce hardy annual flowers that are very attractive to pollinators. The vibrant, purple flowers contrast beautifully with the blue-green foliage.

Cerinthe are excellent for cutting and can be sown both indoors and outdoors ready to flower in the Autumn months.

Sow: February to May / August to October
Flowering: May to August

Sowing
Sow in a tray of moist seed compost in gentle warmth at 10-15 C. Lightly cover the seeds with a little more compost.

Transplanting
Transplant individually into 8 cm pots of compost when seedlings are large enough to handle.

Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually acclimatize plants to cooler conditions before planting out from April onwards. Plants from August-October sowings should be planted in late autumn. Allow 30 cm between plants.

Sowing Outdoors
Rake soil to a firm, even surface. Sow seeds thinly in pre-watered soil, lightly covering with a little more soil. Sowings made in semi-circular lines create a natural "drift" effect. Keep moist until seedlings appear and water during dry spells.

Aftercare / Advice
Thin seedlings as needed to prevent overcrowding and disease. Self-sown seedlings may appear the following year and can be transplanted to other areas of the garden.
