Evening Primrose Missouri Seeds (Oenothera macrocarpa). Description

Evening Primrose Missouri Seeds (Oenothera macrocarpa) - Hardy Perennial for Rock Gardens & Borders

Bring vibrant colour and lasting beauty to your garden with Evening Primrose Missouri, also known as Ozark Sundrop. This eye-catching perennial is prized for its brilliant lemon-yellow flowers and ability to thrive in poor, dry, or rocky soils, making it an ideal choice for low-maintenance and drought-tolerant landscapes.

This compact, spreading plant forms attractive mounds 6-12 inches tall and up to 24 inches wide-perfect for rock gardens, flower borders, containers, and slopes. From late spring through summer, large, cup-shaped blooms (3-5 inches across) open during the day, brightening the garden with cheerful colour. After flowering, the plant produces distinctive winged seed pods that add architectural interest and can be used in dried flower arrangements.

A native North American wildflower, Evening Primrose Missouri (Oenothera macrocarpa) attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, enhancing biodiversity in your outdoor space. Its silvery-green, lance-shaped foliage offers year-round texture and visual appeal.

Extremely drought-tolerant once established, this perennial thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy, or rocky soils. It's ideal for water-wise gardens and erosion control on slopes thanks to its vigorous spreading habit and resilience.
