Herb Chives Polyvert Description

Unwins Herb Chives Polyvert Seeds produce easy to grow chives with a delicious, mild onion flavour.

These herbs make the perfect garnish, adding flavour to your soups and seafood dishes. Grow on your windowsill or outdoors in early summer.

Sow: March to April
Harvest: June to September

Sowing
Fill a small pot with compost, firming lightly with the base of another pot. Water well. Scatter a few seeds over the surface and cover with a thin layer of vermiculite or compost. Place in a propagator or cover the pot with cling film and keep warm at 15-20C. Remove cling film as soon as seedlings emerge.

Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position but shaded from direct sunlight. Water the compost when it feels dry to the touch.

Hardening Off / Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions over 2-3 weeks, then plant out from May onwards. Allow 25cm between clumps.

Advice
Grow in moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade, or in pots using a good quality compost. Plants can be overwintered if desired. Can also be sown outside in late spring, either in well-prepared soil or in 30cm+ pots.
