Physalis Chinese Lantern Plant

Physalis Chinese Lantern Plant Description

Physalis Chinese Lantern Plant

Physalis Chinese Lantern Plant, scientifically known as Physalis alkekengi, is a captivating perennial from the Solanaceae family. Famous for its brilliant orange-red, papery calyces that resemble miniature lanterns, this ornamental plant is a must-have for gardeners seeking vibrant autumn colour and unique texture.

Native to Asia and parts of Europe, Physalis thrives in well-drained soil and partial shade, offering stunning displays from late summer through autumn. The inflated husks gradually dry to reveal delicate, translucent shells that encase a small, cherry-sized fruit - the perfect symbol of protection and prosperity in many cultures.
