SAFLAX - Blue cornflower - 27000 seeds - Centaurea cyanus / Universal medicinal plant that already healed the wounds of the centaur Chiron / USEFUL INFORMATION: The wild species characterizes entire regions with their unmistakable blue in summer. Its delicate stems branch out within a few weeks into a slender summer flower with a height of up to 80 centimeters. The open inflorescence is surrounded by a wreath of sterile tubular flowers, which are always blue in wild flowering cornflowers, in the case of cultivars for near-natural gardens, however, it can also be colored white, pink, red, purple or even black. However, these ornamental varieties have no medicinal properties. Cornflowers are popular with bees, bumblebees and butterflies. They are well suited as cut flowers for fresh containers and also for dry bouquets. Active forces: They are often found as a decorative addition to teas such as Lady Gray. Tea: Pour 250 ml of boiling water over a tablespoon of flowers and strain the brew after ten minutes of steeping. The tea is said to have a mild digestive, flushing and anti-inflammatory effect. In the kitchen: Only the flowers are used in the kitchen. The individual tubular flowers are used for this, but not the calyxes, as they are not very tasty due to the high content of bitter substances. The fresh flowers are ideal as a decoration on salads, wild herb cream cheese, desserts and cakes. NATURAL LOCATION: Cornflowers are originally native to the southeastern Mediterranean region. In the Middle Ages they populated mainly grain fields throughout Central Europe, which explains their name. More intensive fertilization and use of pesticides have decimated them significantly, but they are now more common again on organically farmed field margins. SUCCESSFUL CULTIVATION: From March, cornflowers can be brought out on the windowsill. Spread the seeds on a moist growing medium and cover them only a little with soil. Keep the soil moist, but not wet, by re-moistening it with a water sprayer every day. The germination period is two to four weeks. Cover the cultivation vessel with cling film, which you have provided with holes. How to protect the earth from drying out. Every two days you should remove the film for 2 hours. This prevents mold from forming on the cultivation soil. Place the vessel in a bright, warm place without direct sunlight. As soon as the second pair of leaves appears, it is advisable to separate the small seedlings. As soon as the night frosts no longer threaten, the young plants can be transplanted to their final place in the perennial bed. Cornflowers can also be sown directly in the bed between March and July. If you stagger the sowing dates, the flowering period will be longer. In warm areas, it is worth sowing cornflowers in September for early flowering next year. THE BEST LOCATION: Cornflowers love sunny spots and well-drained, nutrient-poor soil. OPTIMAL CARE: Cut off faded things regularly. Then cornflowers keep sprouting new flowers. You can also extract seeds for the coming year from dried flowers. IN THE WINTER: Cornflowers are annual and will be re-sown in the coming year.
