BRUSSELS SPROUT Groninger The essential cold-weather vegetable. The Brussels sprout was originally cultivated in Belgium (hence the name) from cabbages and generations of school children have been lamenting that fact ever since. If they weren't so good for you, we could probably ignore them but they're packed with nutrients and when cooked properly are surprisingly tasty. A second early variety Groninger grows around 60-80 cm tall and is very productive with many tight, button like sprouts on the main shoot. Groninger makes its sprouts early in the season but it is extremely cold hardy and the crop can be harvested throughout the autumn and into the winter. In common with a lot of winter vegetables the flavour improves with the first frosts of autumn. Very reliable, Brussels Sprout Groninger is an open-pollinated variety and produces great sweet-tasting sprouts. Excellent variety for freezing. We believe well-cooked sprouts are a wonderful vegetable and should be served on the dinner table more often than at Christmas.
