TOMATO Moneymaker Now considered an heirloom variety Tomato Moneymaker was first introduced by F. Stoner of Southampton way back when. Now over 100 years old it gained popularity in the 1960's and 70's for its uniformity and outstanding flavour and has remained a firm favourite ever since. Very reliable, you can count on Moneymaker to produce heavy crops of bright red, greenback resistant fruit. Extremely versatile, best grown as a cordon under cover but Moneymaker can also be cropped successfully as a bush type outdoors but the fruit will be smaller and later. When grown under cover the best yields are achieved when the plants are stopped at the 5th truss and when grown out-doors they should be stopped at the 3rd truss. Moneymaker also shows good resistance to disease. Excellent choice if your soil or weather conditions are poor. A traditional and much-loved indeterminate tomato, Moneymaker is also one of the world's most popular varieties. When planting tomatoes it's a great idea to plant some French Marigolds along side them to deter whitefly and also some Basil, Chives or Mint to deter aphids and other unwelcome pests.
