Phaseolus vulgaris var. nanus

The most widely cultivated beans in the world, French beans were introduced to Europe in the sixteenth century by Spanish and Portuguese explorers.

A medium early variety, Tendergreen have long straight fibre-free pods.

Best when the pods are picked young and cooked within an hour of harvesting.

They have an excellent flavour and the pods can be kept for up to a week when stored in a polythene bag and kept in a refrigerator.

Native to South America, French bean plants cannot stand frost, they like warm conditions and also hate heavy clay or acidic soil.

It may be necessary to lime your soil prior to planting.

French Bean Tendergreen is suitable for eating fresh or can be frozen for later use.

Easy to grow and crops well over a long season

Growing only 40cm tall the plants of Tendergreen require little or no support.
