Lettuce (Iceberg) Barcelona Description

Unwins Crisphead Lettuce Barcelona Seeds produce large-headed, succulent iceberg type lettuces. This variety shows good disease resistance and is also bolt-resistant.

The crisp, crunchy leaves of this lettuce variety hold well in the garden and also hold well in the fridge once picked.

Sow: March to July
Harvest: May to September

Sowing
Sow thinly 1 cm deep in trays or modules of firm, pre-watered compost and cover lightly if desired. Place in a warm spot at 10-15 C and keep moist at all times.

Growing On / Planting Out
After the risk of frost has passed, plant seedlings into the harvest position 25 cm apart, with 30 cm between rows, when plants have 3-4 true leaves. Alternatively, sow thinly 1 cm deep directly in the harvest location. Keep soil moist and thin to 25 cm apart.

Advice
Keep well watered. Small sowings every 3 weeks will ensure a continuous supply. Use netting to protect from birds and insects. This large-headed, Iceberg-type variety shows good disease resistance, has crisp, crunchy leaves, is bolt-resistant, and holds well both in the garden and in the fridge when picked.
